identity
[edit]Hi Famartin - I've had another go at these three; let me know if you agree with my idents, and if yes, I can add them:
- File:2016-06-06 08 57 22 Pine along U.S. Route 33 (Blue Gray Trail) near the High Knob Trailhead in southeastern Pendleton County, West Virginia.jpg - Pinus pungens. An impressively straight specimen for this species, but this is the only pine common in iNaturalist records at this site. The cones match too. Not P. rigida as I'd thought before.
- File:2014-08-29 13 18 27 Pines along Tabernacle-Chatsworth Road (Burlington County Route 532) in Tabernacle Township, New Jersey.JPG - Pinus echinata. This was your previous thought; I thought the cones were too large for that, but I guess they are within the range of size variation.
- File:2014-08-29 13 15 47 Pines along Pines along Tabernacle-Chatsworth Road (Burlington County Route 532) in Tabernacle Township, New Jersey.JPG - no cones unfortunately, which makes it difficult. The commonest pine in this area on iNaturalist is Pinus virginiana, and it looks OK for that, so I'd be happy with that.
Thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:22, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- @MPF: They all sound good to me. Famartin (talk) 23:31, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
